A public search result can point to the right status, but CDOC records, parole paperwork, parole office confirmation, or the sentencing court may be needed when the date controls a legal or supervision step.

About Arkansas Valley Facility

CDOC says Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility opened in August 1987. It is located off Highway 96, about four miles west of Ordway and 40 miles east of Pueblo. AVCF Release Date Fields

Colorado prison release dates begin with the mittimus, which is the sentencing document issued by the court. Good time and earned time should be read with care. CDOC says good time is part of the maximum sentence used to establish parole eligibility, while earned time is a monthly award that can move PED and MRD closer when earned. Some Colorado sentences use a 50 percent parole eligibility framework. Certain serious violent offenses used 75 percent rules before the 2025 change, and covered serious violent offenses committed on or after January 1, 2025 use an 85 percent threshold. The actual AVCF calculation depends on offense date, conviction statute, sentence terms, credits, earned-time eligibility, and parole board action.

For a practical release check, compare the public CDOC fields with the sentencing court record. A mittimus, sentence credit order, or amended judgment can explain why a CDOC date differs from what family or counsel expected. AVCF Parole and VINE

Most Colorado felony convictions include a mandatory period of parole after release from prison for people sentenced to CDOC. CDOC's parole page gives examples by class of felony and notes that parole is part of the sentence for many state-prison releases. The State Board of Parole reviews applications for parole and makes discretionary release decisions. After an AVCF release, the supervising office should be verified through CDOC, parole paperwork, the assigned parole officer, or the supervising office. CDOC says the Division of Adult Parole has 19 parole offices statewide, and Southern field operations include Alamosa, Canon City, Colorado Springs, La Junta, and Pueblo. Crowley County geography makes the southern offices relevant, but the person-specific office should not be guessed.

Colorado VINE can send custody-status updates and release notifications when the person is in a participating source feed. It is useful for custody changes, but it is not the final certified prison record. If VINE says released or transferred, use CDOC Offender Search, CDOC records, parole records, or court records to confirm exact dates and the meaning of the status.

AVCF Release Case Manager
